IZAKAYA NEW YORK

326 E 6th St, East Village, New York NY 10003, United States
Honestly I’m hesitant to recommend this gem because I feel like it’s my little secret. Tiny restaurant with absolutely the best Japanese food. The chicken nan ban is bonkers you usually have to order a second round. Don’t even talk to me about the addictive cabbage. I’m obviously addicted.

From a western point of view there is always a little (or a big) mystery about Japan. It is no difference here. Yudai Kanayama came to NYC to study fashion only a few years ago and he now sells vintage clothes in Brooklyn and runs his restaurant (co-owned with chef Dai Watanabe). There is something impalpable and delicate about the whole affair, the food is exquisite and it has little contemporary touches. A place not to be missed.
