Terrific Persian food counter housed in a nondescript pizza shop. The offering changes regularly, but if its available try the ash reshteh, sort of a hearty noodle stew. Good for a very casual filling meal of dishes that are otherwise hard to find in New York.

Yes, you need to walk inside a pizza place to reach the Persian counter. And no, it isn’t the most gorgeous dining room you have ever seen. But the food is authentic Persian, made with love and time (5-7 hours is the average time to cook the soups and the stews) and the knowledge of recipes and ingredients. Saeed Pourkay is a bit of a neighbourhood legend and rightly so, his food tells the tales of very ancient civilisation.
